Marine Gill Nets of Mumbai Coast: Design and Technical Specification

Over a period of time, many need-based changes have taken place in the netting material, design, and operational aspects of gillnets. These are material substitution, changes in the method of operation, introduction of resource-specific gear, motorization, and others sequent to this. Documentation of the Gillnet design and their method of operation in the region was scanty, not up-to-date, and not received adequate attention. In view of this lacuna, a detailed survey was undertaken on the technical details of the gillnet fishery of the Mumbai coast. I hope this book will prove to be useful teaching aid that will remain an excellent source of information in the coming years to the students, teachers, researchers, development workers, commercial fishermen, planners, and others connected with the development of new designs and exploitation of aquatic resources in a sustainable manner.
