Management of Temporomandibular Disorders

Temporomandibular Disorder is a collective notion that embraces a multiple of clinical signs and symptoms involving the muscles of mastication, the temporomandibular joint and its associated structures, or both. Temporomandibular Disorders includes a cluster of related disorders viz masticatory muscle disorders, disc displacement disorders and inflammatory disorders of the TMJ that share many symptoms in common. Hence, it can be clearly demonstrated that Temporomandibular Disorders is not a single disease entity, but a chronology describing a group of related disorders involving the masticatory apparatus. Temporomandibular disorders are recognized as a very common chronic orofacial pain condition confronting dentists and other health care providers. Recent epidemiologic studies have observed significantly more frequent and severe Temporomandibular Disorder signs and symptoms like pain and tenderness in the temporomandibular joints and masticatory muscles, sounds in the TMJ and limitation or other disturbances of mandibular movement. This book is a collective study about diagnosis and prosthodontic management of Temporomandibular Disorders.
