Management of low-grade gliomas

At present, the proposed management of patients with low-grade gliomas remains ambiguous in the absence of consensus, especially for treatment adjuvant to surgery.Our work is a retrospective, comparative and prognostic study of 33 patients operated on in our department over 12 years (between 1995-2007).Aim of the study:- To study the epidemiological and evolutionary characteristics of the most frequent low-grade gliomas.- To identify prognostic factors for the appropriate therapeutic orientation of patients.- To develop new recommendations adapted to the management of low-grade gliomas.Surgery is the initial and fundamental step in the confirmation of diagnosis and therapeutic management of low-grade gliomas. Post-operative radiotherapy should be used more systematically in cases of poor prognosis. The role of chemotherapy remains ambiguous. The development of a national registry would enable us to better evaluate the various therapeutic strategies.
