MAJOR DISEASES AND INSECT PESTS OF ONION IN THE PHILIPPINES

This field guide contains illustrations and descriptions of the major diseases and insect pests of onion in the Philippines. Also, attempt has been made to include specific management approaches which we believe could also work in other tropical areas. It is designed to aid in the identification of onion diseases and insect pests by the farmers, extension workers, agricultural advisors, agricultural scientists and agriculture students. This guide is not intended to be a diagnostic manual as the final disease diagnosis and insect pest identification should not be made on the basis of symptomatology and damage alone but still has to be confirmed by specialist in a diagnostic laboratory. References have been included to provide the reader with additional sources of information on each disease. The author welcome comments and corrections concerning the guide and solicit additional information including photographs of disease symptoms and insect pests and damage that could be used to enhance future editions.
