The epic Bellum Civile by the poet Lucan (39–65 AD) depicts the civil war between Caesar and Pompey (49/48 BC) in a dramatic manner. This study examines the previously neglected intertextual relationship between the epic and Caesar's c ommentarii and shows that Lucan specifically draws on the Bellum Gallicum , reflecting on Caesar's narrative techniques and integrating them into his own work.
