Loco Regional Flaps in Head & Neck Region

A variety of facial flaps are available to the reconstructive surgeon for repairing facial defects. The goal of flap surgery is to restore form, function, and esthetics. There are many advantages to using local and regional flaps, which can lead to optimal esthetic results. Complications associated with surgery are perhaps no where more apparent and devastating than when they occur on the face. The head and neck region poses a particularly challenging arena for oncologic surgeries or trauma management. Vital structures such as the carotid arteries, cranial nerves, trachea and esophagus are all in close proximity to the primary tumor or regional lymph node metastases. Furthermore, the oral cavity and oropharynx serve as a common channel for breathing, speaking, and swallowing. Advances in surgical approaches and techniques have led to significant improvements in oncologic & post trauma functional and aesthetic outcomes for surgery in the head and neck.
