Marker and cell, volume of fluid, levelset method etc., are available to handle the free surface of the moving fluid. Since these methods require complex computer programming to treat the time-varying free surface boundary and as computational mesh needs to be updated at every time step, use of sigma - transformation for treating the liquid free surface has gained widespread popularity in recent years. Sigma transformation technique is simple, easy to implement and eliminates the need for re-meshing the computational domain at each time step. This technique was applied and found to produce good quality results for sloshing problems.
