Learning to Listen

In an increasingly globalized world, where both businesses and universities are adapting to cope with populations that are culturally and ethnically diverse, leadership theory must recognize the unique challenges faced by administrators in multicultural work and learning environments. Drawing upon research in leadership strategies, communication theory, and multicultural education, this book seeks to provide a meaningful and contextualized approach to managing cultural diversity. As a practitioner-researcher, the author utilizes her experience as a program director in modern languages to identify key aspects of culture and identity that can contribute to communication conflicts and misunderstanding in the workplace. In order to manage diversity, the leader must first understand diversity by learning to listen.
