Lasers in Dentistry

Lasers offer little chance for mechanical trauma, they cause minimal scarring, and sutures are rarely needed. They cause reduction in bacterial counts, and in some areas they may sterilize the field as well. Therefore, for patients at risk for bacteremias, the use of lasers may be especially beneficial. In daily clinical practice, how many times do we not perform or, worse yet, not recommend therapy that is efficacious and yields more esthetic results because we are afraid that the treatment modality and postoperative course are not acceptable to the patient? One of the greatest advantages of laser use in dentistry is a high rate of patient acceptance. Patients today are aware of lasers and their advantages.
