Landslide Hazard Zonation of Bhilangana River Basin

Landslide is one of the major natural disaster, which become unpredictable during the prolong spell of rainfall in the Himalayas, particularly in Uttaranchal. Every year large number of landslide occurs along the road, settlement and streams. It¿s not only create potential threats to human lives and livelihood but also disrupt communication route, natural resource, generate huge amount of sediment from the upper reach to the valley bottom often some time increase the sediment load in the strategic site. In the present study an attempt has been made to understand the variables which trigger landslides and also suitable techniques to prepare hazard map. This book would be very vital to sustainable development planning and reducing vulnerability due to the landslides in the Himalayas and particularly in the Bhilangana Basin.
