Justiciability of Socio-Economic Rights in Ethiopia

Socio-economic rights have received scant attentions than civil and political rights for years, both at the international and national levels. It is also true for Ethiopia, because much has been achieved in the realm of civil and political rights but not for socio-economic rights. The jurisprudence of Ethiopian courts in the adjudication of the latter rights, even in the face of clear violations, is under-developed. Adding to the problem, there is no research that was done on the justiciability of socio-economic rights in the Ethiopian legal system to rectify the deficiency in the judicial practice. This book thus aims at examining and critically analyzing the justiciability of socio-economic rights in Ethiopia. Accordingly, the justiciability of socio-economic rights in Ethiopia is analyzed from the perspective of the three normative pre-conditions of justiciability consisting of: claim, setting and remedy elements of justiciability. This book will be helpful to the beneficiaries of these rights, judges, civil society organizations, the legislature and the executive branch of the government, students and anyone else who may want to work more research on the subject matter.
