Isolation and Engineering of a Cry2A Insecticidal Crystal Protein

This book offers a basic concept of many advanced technologies such as molecular biology, protein engineering, protein expression and purification, codon optimization and reconstruction of synthetic gene. This volume is an excellent example where the systematic approach has been used to solve a number of research problems, which definitely offers a horizon of knowledge to students, research scholars, and young researchers. Generation of high toxic insecticidal proteins (Bacillus thruingiensis (Bt) toxins) against rice and cotton insects through protein engineering, is a great achievement of this study. High potent engineered Bt toxins could be used either alone or in combination with other Bt toxin to protect crops yield loss. This work has a significant contribution in agricultural field. This study nicely demonstrates how students should start working in protein engineering. This study not only shows the agricultural importance, it addresses some key steps that can be targeted for protein engineering.
