Ipamed - Computerized heritage map

IPAMED is a project of the Euromed Heritage I program set up within the framework of the regional program of support to the valorization of the Euro-Mediterranean cultural heritage. It is financed by the European Commission; it officially started in August 1998; started in 1999, the project was originally spread over three years; it will be extended, following an amendment, its official closing was done on December 31, 2003. The abbreviation IPAMED stands for Inventory of the Mediterranean Heritage; the subtitle "Computerized Heritage Map" is meant to remind us that it is a training in GIS. The inventory is one of the priorities for any work on cultural heritage. It is the condition for its knowledge, its preservation and its valorisation. Inventory activities adopt different approaches according to the specific characteristics of each field of investigation, its own constraints and the objectives sought. The Mediterranean countries are today more and more confronted with the demands of development and land use planning likely to generate immediate risks.
