Introduction to Gender and Women Empowerment Discourse

This handbook, entitled ¿Introduction to Gender and Women Empowerment Discourse¿, introduces you, the reader or student, to the field of gender and its related concepts as well as some cross-cutting issues. The handbook is divided into 8 Chapters. The first Chapter introduces you to the ¿nature and scope of gender¿ while the second Chapter discusses ¿perspectives on gender development¿. In the third Chapter, we look at ¿gender stereotyping and mainstreaming¿ while in Chapter four, we consider ¿gender issues in selected social settings¿. Chapter five discusses ¿gender conventionalism and policy¿ while Chapter six looks at ¿gender and feminism¿. In Chapter seven, we discuss ¿gender regimes & criticism¿ while in the last Chapter (Chapter eight), we introduce you to ¿women empowerment frameworks¿ which are some of the theoretical views that underpin the women empowerment discourse. As an introductory handbook, it is, therefore, not a complete manual on gender and women¿s empowerment but attempts to give you an appreciation of the area of study.
