Interactions among some nutrients & their implications on plant growth

High levels of any particular nutrient in the soil can interfere with the availability and uptake of other nutrients by the plant. Nutrients which interfere with one another are referred to as antagonists. High nitrogen levels can reduce the availability of boron and potassium. Unless care is taken to ensure adequate balanced supply of nutrients, application of high levels of any particular nutrient can induce deficiencies of other nutrients in plant. Stimulation occurs when application of a particular nutrient increases the uptake of another nutrient. For example, increased N creates a demand for more magnesium. Interactions among plant nutrients are of very important and could take place in the soil as well as within the plant. Such interactions must be understood and considered in order to secure adequate nutrient supply.
