Influence of Slope and Crop on runoff and Soil Loss Under Rainfall

The combination of three soil cover conditions cotton crop, groundnut crop, fallow and four slope conditions 1.25%, 1%, 0.75%, 0.5% along with one control no crop no slope condition. The effects of slope and crop on runoff, runoff coefficient, CN (Curve Number) and on soil washout were studied. The observed runoff as compared to estimated runoff by CN method in months June and July under cotton and groundnut crops were found higher which shows crop cover has negligible effect on observed runoff. While from month of August to September the observed runoff were found lower as compared to estimated runoff in all the crops and slopes conditions which shows the effect of crop cover as monsoon season progresses.
