Emergency ophthalmological conditions account for the highest percentage of ophthalmology consultations. Ophthalmological emergencies are a varied group of pathologies that any specialist or general practitioner may encounter in his or her daily practice. A sound diagnostic approach based on a thorough history, the results of a well-conducted clinical examination and the findings of well-placed investigations will determine the quality of treatment.The ocular symptoms that motivate a patient to seek emergency care vary widely, and are closely related to the pathology in question.
