Indigenous Parks Management in Chile

Indigenous Park Management in Chile is an outcome of in-depth study conducted in the southern part of Chile. The book highlights on the indigenous community based management approach towards conserving biodiversity, basically the globally important temperate rain forests existing in the fragmented patches that are under threat of human pressure. Indigenous parks are the natural parks owned, conserved and managed by the Mapuche community. Conflicting issues between livelihood and conservation is inevitable in a poor community like Mapuches, who earn less than half the income of non-indigenous households. The income and expenditure associated with a park- Pichi Mallay Indigenous Park has been explored. Further, the book presents the social and economic impacts upon indigenous life, and governance within the park management. The explored problems and issues with recommendations will contribute to park management. The main target of disseminating information via this book is to fulfill the gap that is existing in the relevant subject. It can also serve as a valuable reference material for libraries, students and researchers.
