Indebtedness among Farmers and Agricultural Labourers

This book is an outcome of a field survey of indebtedness among farmers and agricultural laborers in Punjab. The authors are thankful to the Indian Council of Social Science Research for sponsoring this project. This study is quite contextual as the state government as well as the unions are trying to find the solutions to the increasing rate of farmers¿ suicides in the state. In the policy arenas, there are discussions about loan waivers in the agricultural sector. So this study gives an overview of the extent, determinants as well as the effects of increasing indebtedness not only among the farm households but also among agricultural laborers. The policies suggested by this project will not only generate a productive opinion among the policy makers in the state of Punjab but can also be helpful for other states which are struggling hard with the similar issues of their agricultural sector.
