In vitro Propagation, Biochemical and Phylogenetic Analyses of Hypoxis

An interesting work that covers most aspects of the medicinal Hypoxis species including in vitro cultivation, possibilities of multiplication for mass production, the relationship between the species, and some phytochemicals with health and medicinal implications. Hypoxis species, commonly referred to as yellow stars or star lilies mainly because of the bright star-shaped yellow flowers, have been used for many generations by indigenous African tribes to treat numerous ailments. The underground storage organs of these wild grasses have found their way into modern medicine and are now being used to make supplements and medications for selected illnesses. Indeed these plant species have great potential in future medicine!
