Implementation of International Instruments on Air Pollution By India

The scenario of air pollution in India is increasing day by day even though India has adhered to principles laid down in international environmental instruments since 1972 by incorporating them in national legislation and policies, even the judiciary has played a proactive approach for implementation of these legislations, policies and judgments through well drafted judgments expanding every horizon of fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution. The inception of Indiäs effort to tackle environmental pollution started when it participated in United Nation Conference on Human Environment held in Stockholm (Sweden) in the year1972. This conference marked a beginning of an organized international effort to safeguard environment and promote economic development on the pattern of sustainable development and it marked as a turning point in the development of international environmental politics. This book is an analysis of all the international instruments on air pollution that our country has ratified and still needs to ratify and what has its impact been on the development of environmental jurisprudence in India.
