Impacts of Urban Sprawl on Environment:The case of Sebeta,Ethiopia

The process of development of city leads to urbanization and this will require that cities grow in size and use more land. Besides the need of land for development, urban areas also may expand for a number of other reasons during the process of development. Cities/towns in Ethiopia are getting sprawling towards their peripheral areas and consuming the fertile farmlands. As a case study, the author shows the Urban sprawl trends and their impacts on the Environment of Sebeta Town in Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. The readers will find the concepts and types of Urban Sprawl from different sources which are supported and illustrated with maps, photographs and in addition ways of managing urban Sprawl has been included.
