IMPACT OF MODERN EDUCATION ON THE TRADITIONAL LIFE OF PHOMS

Education is the source for enriching people, culture, life style and paving the path to scientific ideas, and technologies. Tribal people knowledge used to be acquired through first-hand experience and this is reflected in the form of ritual, festivals, art and tools. These are applied in day to day living. Intellectual development in the form of attainment of skills in various vocational occupations and observations of festivals occupied very important place. However small a community certain uniqueness either in the field of culture, tradition or custom exists and these have direct or indirect impact in the life of the people in ascertaining the quality and standard of living of the people and its impact on the society. The main focus here is on Phom tribe of Nagaland in commensurate with the social and educational dimensions based on the traditional practices along with the prevailing status of the community.
