Impact of Caregiving

Taking care of someone with a curable disease has time bound roles and challenges and it will be settled as the sick person return to normal living. Whereas by assuming the role of caregiver to a cancer survivor, a persons¿ lifestyle and responsibilities becomes unique and challenging. Today¿s advanced therapies are competent to save and prolong the lives of those with cancer but the period of cancer is sure to subject the cancer survivor and their caregivers in a difficult situations. Recognizing the strength of caregivers¿ contribution in the treatment of cancer by the community will offer immense support for not only the caregivers but also to the treating team. It is the overall responsibility of community to remove the hurdles of cancer treatment and this has to be achieved in consensus of all. Implementing a structured multidisciplinary approach in cancer treatment with the inclusion of caregivers¿ health will address the psychosocial issues involved in caregiving and lead towards better quality of life of the caregivers
