Image Retrieval Systems in PACS Environment

Image retrieval plays a major role in an integrated healthcare environment for various clinical diagnoses.In some cases, these retrieved images are used for medical education, clinical based evidence diagnosis, Tele ¿ health education, clinical surgeries based on previous examinations and many more.The technical advancement in digital technology has simplified the acquisition, transmission and storage of medical images.The major task given to the user is retrieval of stored information¿s quickly and correctly.Hence any retrieval system should have the capability to facilitate user friendly environment providing only relevant data. Particularly in an integrated healthcare environment major attention must be given to the resultant documents which should not give false data to the physicians for diagnosis. This leads to great impact on patient¿s survival.Two kinds of approach are adopted in this retrieval system. They are text based and content based retrieval approach. The advantage of text based and content based approaches are combined together results to hybrid approach.
