Ideas about language and languages

We can say that it is at least from Plato's Cratylus that linguistics has been concerned with language: its origin, its functions, the basis of its capacity to express meanings; and more particularly of the different parts of speech and their functions, of the different types of semantic relations, of the relationship between language and thought, language and external world, language and human society, and a very large number of other problems concerning whose language is relevant.All these studies have contributed to the emergence of rigorous and precise methods of analysis: we submit the data to in-depth and objective examinations, we construct hypotheses which we attempt to verify and which we revise according to new data. , thus preparing the advent of modern linguistics.
