Human-Centered Design

Over the past centuries, humans have learned a lot about themselves and their environments. But for the most part, architects are not educated in human needs, and users are often expected to adapt to whatever planners envision for them. The focus in architecture today is slowly shifting towards more sustainable thinking, and the attempts to “tame” human behavior have decreased but not ceased to exist. Science is constantly gaining new insights into how the built environment affects human beings. For this research to actually matter beyond the written word, it needs to be made accessible to everyone – in a form that is easy to understand and easy to apply in practice. This book bridges the gap between research and design practice: it offers readers both solid knowledge and easy-to-use tools for designing healthy, sustainable, human-centered places.
