How the L1 Culture Influences Second Language Acquisition

What is linguistic distance, and how does it generate language learning difficulties? How does the demography of a society mold peoples' motivation to learn English?And how does the Confucian culture shape the pedagogy in the English classrooms of Asia? When discussing culture in language education, the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) has always focused on the culture of the target language (L2). This book, however, unveils how the culture of learners' first language (L1) influences second language learning.
