Horticulturists recognizes the ¿learn by doing¿ as a very effective instruction method¿ and an excellent strategy for preparing learners for the world of work or more importantly the world of job creation. Recognizing the unique challenge of food shortages in the developing world and lack of interest for the learners to get their hands dirty, the manual is meant to equip cadres with the technical knowledge and the practical, hands-on experience necessary to develop the horticultural potential and effectively manage the natural resources of the world. The ultimate goal is to produce graduates with the vision, commitment, and the ability to apply their practical knowledge and experience to the well-being of the society through deep understanding of the interrelationship of horticulture with the social, economic, and the environment. This manual therefore blends the ¿how¿ and ¿why¿ in a learn by-doing environment. It is against this background that the manual is set to enable learners to acquire green fingers in horticulture.
