Laboratory investigation has become an important part of medical diagnostic procedure by adding its objective information to the more subjective history and physical examination of the patient. In last few decade laboratory investigation have seen marked advancement with arrival of latest and advanced laboratory tools. It has become easier to diagnose the underlying hematological changes occurring with the diseases per se, at the same time the monitoring of progression of disease can be evaluated.An oral physician when encounter a patient with oral manifestations of systemic disease and vice- versa, is usually faced with a host of test and measurement which can be done on a patient¿s blood, serum, plasma, etc. The problem is to choose that test which will give the accurate information in the most efficient manner and for the least possible cost.The results need to be evaluated always in term of reference value for age and gender. Thus hematological investigation is an important part of medical diagnostic procedures for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment.
