Heavy metals in Fish and Water: A Case Study of Orogodo River

In recent years, there has been an increasing ecological and global public health concern associated with environmental contamination by heavy metals. They are dangerous because they cannot be transformed by micro-organisms and therefore accumulate in water, soil, bottom sediments and living organisms. Heavy metal pollution not only affects the quality of the atmosphere and water bodies, it threatens the health and life of animals and human beings by way of the food chain. This book provides an insight on how these silent killers find their way into our water bodies, the pathway of these metals in the food chain, their effect on the aquatic organisms and man. It also sheds light on the heavy metal contamination of the Orogodo River and fish species obtained therein, hazard associated with consumption of fish species obtained from the river.
