Health Risk Associated with Chemical among Gold Panners

The study comes against a background of a series of health risks associated with chemical contamination among gold panners. However data on chemical contamination among African artisanal miners are very limited hence the researcher carried out this researcher to establish the existence of health risks in Mhondoro Ngezi District. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and observations. The gathered data was presented in the form of tables, pie charts and graphs. A total of 47 Gold panners who were willing to participant were used in the study. Other 22 participants were obtained from EMA, ZIMRA, Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, Ministry of Mines and Mining Development and Local Government t Authority using judgmental sampling method. The study revealed that there were health risks associated with chemical contamination among gold panners. The study showed that all stakeholders are putting effort to save the panners with Ministry of Health and Child Welfare taking a leading role. However the actions by ZIMRA were not felt by the panners.
