Haemodynamic and inflammatory characterisation of the preeclamptic

Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder that affects 2-8% of pregnancies and is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Recent research has improved the understanding of the pathogenesis of this potentially life-threatening condition, especially in the treatment aspects. However, despite these advances, therapeutic options remain limited and there are currently no effective pharmacological interventions available. Complications associated with pre-eclampsia can be reduced by using protocols for early treatment of complications using appropriate guidelines. Nitroglycerin patches are very popular and some researchers claim that their use can facilitate external cephalic version, vaginal delivery and manual exploration of the uterus and have proposed their use as a tocolytic. This book discusses the potential effects of nitroglycerin patch use on haemodynamic and inflammatory parameters in pre-eclamptic women.
