Gutta Percha :A material of era

Gutta-percha has been the most popularly used semi solid material for obturating the root canal system. Its acceptance as a dental material runs for more than a century. A renewed interest has been developed in old-fashioned gutta-percha because of disappointing results of modern petro chemical products or plastics. Understanding this material is important for success of endodontic therapy.Till date however, Gutta-percha is the main stay as far as solid core obturating materials are concerned and newer obturating materials are yet to compete with the plethora of advantages of Gutta-percha and overcome the very few limitations of this material, in order to carve a place for itself as the number one obturating material.
