Auxiliary entomofauna comprises two groups, depending on the type of action they perform on pests (predation or parasitism): predators and parasites. Predators are those that feed on others throughout their lives, so that they are continuously actively searching for food. If feeding is based on several prey species, they are known as polyphagous, while oligophagous predators are those predators that are highly specialized on their prey. Parasites, on the other hand, are insects that, in the larval stage, parasitize other arthropods, using themselves to develop within or on them (endoparasites and ectoparasites, respectively).
