Compared to graphene, its oxygen derivatives such as rGO and graphene oxide have received considerable attention of the researchers as they retain much of the properties of graphene, easy functionalization for new and hybrid properties, better solubility and stability in solvent, easy to prepare in bulk quantity and cheaper than graphene. On the above view, it was explored to produce graphene oxide from other than graphite carbon sources such as sola plant and shellac biopolymer. The sole intention of this investigation is to search an alternate carbon source than graphite and to develop a simple and industry-friendly conversion protocol from the source to graphene derivative. The efficacy of the produced graphene oxide from natural carbon source has been evaluated based on the electrical and corrosion properties and the obtained results have been compared with the performance results of rGO prepared from graphite carbon source.
