The Pranmalai area is generally a hard rock terrain. There is no sedimentary rock in Pranamalai except for recent soil alluvium. The Geological Survey of India [GSI], of Tamilnadu, has already worked on random geological mapping in Tamilnadu and also around the Pranmalai region. But, detailed geological mapping was not done previously in and around the Pranmalai region by any organization. Keeping this aim in mind in this project, an attempt has been made in and around Pranmalai hills, Sivagangai district, Tamilnadu, India, to delineate petrography, and mineralogy structural geological mapping work. This is the first advanced research work in the above study area.
