Genetics and Craniofacial Paradigm

Genetics is an ever expanding branch of science that will have a major impact on the future health care system. In the future, it may be used as an adjunct to standard therapeutic procedures than an independent and self-sufficient treatment system. Genetic diseases are caused by gene mutations that are inherited from one or both parents. Certain genetic diseases can cause abnormalities in oral structures, affecting the rate of function, development of these parts and their physical characteristics, leading to catastrophic effects on the oral health related quality of life. The identification of major genes defect and their disorders may lead to better diagnosis and management. A thorough mathematically phrased and biophysically based understanding of what causes the variation of phenomena as a function of genetic and environmental variation will not only transform drug design, personalized medicine, production biology and biotechnology, but also foster very sophisticated engineering in several technology areas. Interaction between human genetics and microbial genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and pharmacogenomics will brighten the prospects of community health.
