Fungal diseases of forest trees in Nigeria

This book attempts to fill the need for an introductory text to fungal diseases of forest trees in Nigeria. It provides the reader with a minimum number of references, but does not sacrifice essential information or accuracy. It is also inevitable that the viewpoint tends to be on Amurum forest reserve, and that examples from our own experiences will be drawn largely from the forest reserve.The dynamic nature of Amurum forest reserve recognized internationally as an Important Bird Area (IBA) has been an important research area. The maintenance of a healthy forest is an ongoing challenge because of the threat posed by tree diseases especially those caused by fungi.The aim of this book is to provide information on the reserve and summarize the findings of fungi associated with diseases of some forest trees in the reserve. A key message of this book is to kindle an understanding that the future of the reserve relies on constant surveillance of forest tree species in the reserve which will aid in the detection of any threat to extinction of tree species. Also, technology intervention to monitor tree health will play a major role in the process of biodiversity conservation.
