The book includes an introduction to "Riders to the Sea" and the drama of John Millington Synge in general; the full text of "Riders to the Sea", followed by textual notes to the play; a critical bibliography of Synge''s drama; an introduction to "The Intruder" and the drama of Maurice Maeterlinck; a bibliography of the drama of Maeterlinck; and the full text of "The Intruder" in English translation. In sum, this volume is a valuable introduction to these two plays--one Irish, one Belgian--which bridge the gap in world drama from naturalism to symbolism.
