Nuclear power plants are distinctive both in the application of a technology that harnesses the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom and as an organization that can manage this technology safely. A key element of a nuclear power plant safe operation is its nuclear safety culture. The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations Traits of a Healthy Nuclear Safety Culture defines nuclear safety culture as the core values and behaviors resulting from a collective commitment by leaders and individuals to emphasize safety over competing goals to ensure protection of people and the environment. Nuclear power plant operators dedication and strength of its safe operations are evident in its Nuclear Safety Culture. They have the responsibility for maintaining a healthy nuclear safety culture through the development and introduction of a Safety Culture Enhancement Programme.
