Foreign International Commercial Arbitration Awards

This book examines the current position of the recognition and the enforcement of foreign international commercial arbitration awards in Nigeria, challenges to enforcement of foreign awards and what changes or steps need to be made or taken to improve same. It seeks to critically analyze the legislative framework for enforcement in Nigeria as well as other factors which impact on enforcement, in order to assess the effectiveness of international commercial arbitration in Nigeria.This book also identifies and examines key factors and stakeholders involved in enforcement in Nigeria, how they have contributed to or shaped the current position, and their roles in the proposed solutions to the identified challenges to enforcement. In doing so, this book will consider some Nigerian court cases involving the recognition and enforcement of foreign international commercial arbitration awards and highlight the key reasons for the positive or negative outcomes of the cases.This book concludes with an analysis of the proposed solutions to the identified challenges, and how implementation of these solutions may shape the future of arbitration in Nigeria.
