Food and Nutritional Security Status

Food security explains a situation in which people get sufficient amount of food and do not live in hunger. There are 868 million people suffering from hunger and starvation, but only 2% are in the developed countries and remaining 98% are living in the developing countries (FAO, 2010. In India nearly 27% people are living below poverty level. ¿Food security is the access by all people at all time to enough food for an active, healthy life¿ (WHO). Food security is not only the global problem but also a regional and local problem. Malda district is one of the most backward districts among West Bengal in terms of education, economics, socially as well as infrastructures. Every year Malda are faces flood maximum portions of the district. So food production is badly affected and especially farmers are struggling for food 2-3 months per year. According to various studies, numbers of people are suffering due to lack of awareness when they have sufficient income and foods. The study is based on primary data and tries to find out the actual food security situations on the basis of various dimensions.
