Fire Retardant Coir MDF boards and their applications

Coir is a natural fiber extracted from coconut husk and is a promising reinforcement material in composite boards on account of properties like low density, high specific strength, high elastic modulus, ease of availability, renewability and lower energy requirement for processing. Increasing popularity of wood substitutes in building and construction sector encourages the development of coir fiber boards to substitute engineered wood products like plywood. Fire retardant (FR) materials are a preferable choice in construction, since the decreased ability of a material to catch fire accounts to better safety.
