Faecal transplant or fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is the process in which faecal bacteria from a healthy individual is transplanted into a recipient who needs treatment for suffering from Clostridium difficile infection (C. difficile). The infection is known to produce various effects ranging from diarrhea to pseudomembranous colitis. FMT is also known as faecal bacteriotherapy, faecal transfusion, stool transplant, faecal enema and human probiotic infusion.
