Explorations in the Tambillo Valley

Immersed in the mountains of the northern limit of the Petorca valley, on the border with the Coquimbo region, Tambillo contains a rich archaeological heritage evidenced in stones with tacitas, petroglyphs and ceremonial centers, which are threatened by the mining activity that destroys everything in its path.The intention of the present text is to provide an overview of this place only explored by Hans Niemeyer in the 1960s and that today, 60 years later, is again being studied in a more methodical and detailed way.What is contained in these pages is not a final text nor does it pretend to be the conclusion of a great investigation, but much less than that, it is the beginning, the beginning, the exposition of background information that will make possible the recovery, preservation and conservation of the sites indicated, so that future generations may enjoy this enormous heritage not only of Chile but of the entire Andean community.
