Evaluating the Joint Impact of PSNP and OFSP in Rural Ethiopia

This study has tried to evaluate the impact of the PSNP and OFSP on three important outcomes, such as household food security, off farm business enterprise participation and use of improved agricultural inputs in rural Ethiopia. This study draws on an all extensive longitudinal (panel) household data collected by Addis Ababa University in cooperation with IFPRI and Oxford University. Two rounds of data sets weree used for the analysis, collected in 2004 and 2009. Where the 2004 data set was a pre intervention data set and 2009 was a post intervention data set. In this study a DID approach with a fixed effect regression was employed. The findings of the regression show that the program has a modest effect in reducing the food security situation and in improving agricultural investment. In addition, the impact of the program towards off farm business enterprise participation also examined and the result show that the program participation does not affect off farm business enterprise participation.
