Estimation of Uncertainty in Hardness Measurement Systems

Every day, quantitative measures are made. A specified set of criteria determines the precision of these measurements. Measurements may need to be of low accuracy for one organisation while being of great accuracy for another. No measurement is exact, despite the rules being in place. Every measurement result contains a unique level of uncertainty, regardless of how careful or exact the measurement was. As a result, if measurement is significant, measurement uncertainty must also be significant. No measurement is complete, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, without a disclosure of the associated degree of uncertainty. With worked examples, this book discusses the various types of hardness testing equipment and measurement of uncertainty.
