Establishment of the State of Kosovo 1943 - 2008

In 1989, with constitutional changes under repression by the SFRY and Serbia, Kosovo was abolished by the subjectivity of Yugoslav federalism. The people of Kosovo in 1990 declared a referendum on secession from Serbia until the armed conflict in Kosovo and NATO military intervention in the FRY and Serbia due to the humanitarian catastrophe and human rights violations in Kosovo, since the Military Technical Agreement between the International Security Force, KFOR, and the Governments of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Serbia, on March 9, 1999, proclaimed the act of liberation of Kosovo. By the Resolution of the UN Security Council 1244/1999 of 10 June, 1999 Kosovo was proclaimed as an entity under UNMIK. The Constitutional Framework of Self-Government in Kosovo defined the transformation of power from the international to locals. The Ahtisaari package was supported by the Kosovo Contact Group, the US, Germany, and the EU Parliament but it was opposed by Russia. The Ahtisaari Proposal defines unilateral independence. Despite the disagreement of some members of the UN Security Council, Kosovo declared independence in the Assembly on February 17, 2008.
