Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the basic science dealing with preventive, clinical and social medicine. The population as a whole is considered as the unit of study rather than an individual. Contrary to clinical medicine where the patient goes to the doctor, in epidemiological science it is the epidemiologist who goes to the people to do the investigation. Even though the basic difference does exist between clinical medicine and epidemiology, they go hand in hand to ensure a better world. Epidemiology is the cornerstone of public health research to identify risk factors of diseases, thus provides the highest level of evidence-based treatment options to the population. Epidemiology serves as the foundation of preventive and curative interventions for the public.
